Investments in airport infrastructure in 2024
Year 2024 brings huge investments in airport infrastructure worldwide. As global air traffic returns to pre-pandemic levels, airports must not only keep up with the growing number of passengers but also modernize to meet modern standards in terms of safety, sustainable development, and passenger comfort.
In the United States, the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) has allocated over 2 billion dollars for the modernization of airports across the country. This includes projects aimed at improving passenger infrastructure, expanding terminals, modernizing runways, and implementing eco-friendly solutions such as zero-emission vehicles. Airports like Tucson International Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport are leaders in such investments, with their projects encompassing both terminal modernization and infrastructure development to accommodate new technologies and sustainable aviation fuels.
In Europe, similar projects are being carried out on a large scale, especially in regions expecting significant growth in the number of passengers. For example, Male’s Velana International Airport in the Maldives plans to open a new low-cost terminal (LCC) that will handle 7.3 million passengers annually, significantly enhancing the capabilities of the airport.
These investments not only improve infrastructure but also contribute to sustainable development, safety, and passenger comfort, ensuring that travelers can rely on modern and efficient airports in the future.
