Passenger traffic in civil aviation exceeds pre-pandemic levels.

According to the latest data from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), passenger traffic worldwide has reached and exceeded pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels. In the first quarter of 2024, the number of passengers was 2% higher than in 2019, and airlines continue to maintain high levels of operating profits. This is a continuation of a trend that began in 2023 when most major international routes returned to full operation. Among the regions that have contributed the most to this growth, Europe stands out, along with connections between Europe and North America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Although the recovery is still ongoing in many Asian markets, routes in the Southeast Asia region are nearing full recovery. Furthermore, ICAO emphasizes the importance of sustainable development in aviation, pointing to the increasing role of sustainable fuels and innovative technologies that are intended to support the reduction of CO2 emissions. Thanks to these efforts, global aviation is becoming more environmentally friendly, and its recovery is becoming increasingly sustainable.
