Air India Express and AIX Connect have merged into one entity.

On October 1, 2024, the Air India Group announced the completion of the operational and legal integration process of Air India Express Ltd and AIX Connect Pvt Ltd (formerly AirAsia India). This move creates a larger low-cost carrier that will compete with market leader IndiGo and smaller players such as Akasa Air and SpiceJet. The newly merged entity expects to increase its fleet to over 100 aircraft by the end of the current financial year, with an extensive network covering India, the Gulf region, and Southeast Asia. The introduction of this new carrier is part of a broader transformation strategy by Tata Group, the owner of Air India. Following this process, the next step will be the merger of Vistara with Air India, scheduled for November 12, 2024. This merger aims to further strengthen Air India's position as a market leader in the aviation industry, both in India and internationally.
